65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao.Then he was only 5 years old.Heoften visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there,which he thought was a dragon.He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted oneto keep as a treasure.

In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had toleave.On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one ofthe teeth from the dragon’s mouth.

He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at havingstolen it was there in the background all through his life.It was always on hisconscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older.Finally he decidedto put right his childish error.In 2002, he visited Qingdao and returned it tothe Aquarium with his sincere apologies.He received a warm welcome.

When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported onhis visit.I was deeply touched by his honesty.It has taught me a lot.I thinkto err is human.The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correctone’s error.

我们家在农村，抚养我和哥哥很不容易，更何况要送我们都读书。面对巨额的学费，父母咬牙坚持着，任生活的重担把他们的肩膀压弯，毫无怨言。

现在，我们都在外面学习或是工作，守着空空的房子，接电话就成了父母最快乐的事了。我们一个个打电话回去，父母乐滋滋地告诉其他几个的情况。我想，那也许是他们最幸福的时刻。

为了丰富广大同学的课余生活，加强英语的学习与交流，提高同学们学习英语的积极性;给广大同学提供一个自我锻炼、展示自我的舞台，我院社团联合会英语协会决定举办:“水院之星”英语演讲比赛，我们协会在得到老师和同学的支持下，于本月举行了英语演讲比赛，此次比赛主要针对全院的大一的学生。大一学生参加的积极性很高，报名人数也很多，在我院大一学生新生中有一定的影响力，比赛设有预赛和决赛，本次比赛采取“公平，公正，公开”的比赛原则，此次活动是南湖校区与汤逊湖校区首次联谊比赛。

在比赛的前期，两个校区都在各自在本校做了许多关于对本次活动的宣传活动，鼓励各系各班的同学积极参加，预赛是两校区在各自的本部举办，南湖校区报名参赛40名。汤逊湖校区报名参赛60几名，预赛于10月31号举行，，经过一轮又一轮的角逐，在评委的公正评判下，南湖校区总共有11名参赛选手进入决赛，汤逊湖校区有19名进入决赛。决赛于11月8号下午2：00在南湖校区二楼报告厅拉开的帷幕，

决赛荣幸地邀请了英语组组长胡志红老师、许俊老师、廖兆慧老师、王婷老师、余慧敏老师，胡雅文老师作为本次演讲比赛决赛的评委,，决赛时所有参赛者都表现出超常的发挥，比赛也进行的异常的激烈，在评委老师的严格评判下，最后共有十名同学获奖，一等奖一名邢垒;二等奖二名代雪梅、田伟;三等奖三名陈筱婷、梁帅、秦毛玲;优秀奖四名邓燕玲、张志晨、聂德龙、杨冲。此次活动旨在提高全院同学英语口语，使同学积累更多的演讲的经验。

此次活动虽然整体看起来是成功的，但是也有存在许多不足的地方，首先作为本次活动的策划人及负责人，我有许多问题没考虑到，例如;决赛的比赛形式难度过大及比赛时给参赛者准备的时间不足，导致许多参赛者上台比赛产生慌场的现象和导致许多参赛者没法完全发挥出来，给比赛带来许多的不便，还有就是决赛前的准备工作做得很伧促，导致比赛延迟了十分钟的。但是在全体协会的成员共同努力下比赛还是顺利进行了，此次活动有不足也有完美之处，通过本次比赛使我们学会了很多，也明白了许多。希望下一次能把第八届搞得更好。

英语演讲比赛活动总结2

由信息工程学院、体育学院、法学院和马克思主义学院学生会学习部联合举办的迎新英语演讲比赛终于落幕了。这次大型活动的举办，对学习部来说，无疑是具有着重大意义的。在活动举办的整个过程中，我们一直坚持“增进友谊、服务同学”理念，认真做着每一件事情，尽可能地注意到每一个细节，力求将这次活动办得让老师们满意、让同学们满意、让自己放心。经过此次活动，我们从中获益匪浅，当然，其中出现的很多不足之处，也值得我们去认真思考。

成绩：

首先，对此次活动，我们四个院学习部之间进行了深入的沟通与交流，在物资设备申请、教室借用、评委礼物、PPT制作等方面，我们分工具体、明确，四个院之间坚持互帮互助、通力合作，为此次活动的顺利进行奠定了良好的基础;

其次，在人员安排方面，我们四个院的准备较为充分，包括主持人、礼仪小姐、记分员、茶水员、音响调试员、多媒体设备控制员等方面都做了周密、详尽的安排，保证了活动完整、有序地开展;

最后，在活动环节中，我们添加了爵士舞表演和十佳歌手演唱环节，十分有效地活跃了现场了气氛，也调动了观众参与活动的积极性; 不足：

虽然取得了一定的成绩，但我们更多的，是要关注在活动中所出现的不足之处，以便于吸取教训，为以后活动的更好开展奠定基础。

第一、活动前期的准备工作略显仓促，赛前的赛制商量不明确，直至比赛开始之前的前几小时才通知到选手以相关的赛制改变事宜。部分选手上台之后因紧张而说不出话的原因与此有一定的联系;

第二、活动形式上还需进一步创新。此次的比赛我们仍采用了以往的普通赛制，部分观众因对演讲比赛的环节失去了兴趣，中场离开，导致了现场其他观众的躁动和离场，影响了整个活动的质量;

第三、活动现场的秩序较为混乱。现场的少部分观众未能很好地控制自己的情绪和行为，在比赛现场大声喧闹，不仅影响了选手的发挥，也影响了主持人的发挥，造成了现场的很多尴尬局面。在以后的活动中，一定要记得安排好秩序维护员是一项很重要的工作。

此次演讲赛给予了我们很深的感受，在以后的工作中，我们一定会吸取经验，认真组织，争取把每一次活动办到更好。

四、活动心得

本次比赛虽然时间比较仓促，但在老师及学生会成员的大力支持与帮助下，我们在三天的时间内将比赛准备好，从选手报名到通知选手相关事宜，从布置赛场和安排人员座位，每一项工作我们都尽力做好。我们在做每一项工作之前，都想好了这项工作应该注意的细节。由此，我们知道，只要我们做事认真用心，团结合作，我们一定能把事情做好。

五、活动意义

本次比赛，积极响应了我校提出的“创建文明校园”的号召，在我院建立起良好的英语学习氛围，树立良好的学风，并及时配合学校的各项工作，建立和谐校园。另外，此次比赛使得参赛选手充分展现了自我，肯定了自我，使选手们克服了对开口讲英语的恐惧感，树立学好英语的信心，更加调动了选手对英语学习的积极性，考察并提高了选手对英语的运用及应变能力。此次比赛，不仅丰富了同学的课余生活，并更能够丰富同学的语言文化，增强同学的主人翁意识。也希望通过本次比赛，让越来越多的同学喜欢英语，学习英语，热爱英语，

六、改进意见

就活动中存在的缺点及不足予以改正，用心考虑好每一个细节，要做到精益求精，工作分工要明确，人员安排要合理有序，对于比赛现场有可能发生的事情，提前想好对策。虽然本次活动在音响和话筒上没有出现较大的问题，但是我们以后在搞活动的同时仍然会在这方面多加注意。我们会在此次活动的基础上，改进缺点与不足，继续发扬此次活动的优点，在不足之处，我们会在以后的活动中多加注意，争取将缺点一一改正。此外，在这学期之内，我们部会开展更多更加有意义的活动，来丰富同学的课余生活，从活动中感受快乐!

七、最后小结

二、活动准备阶段

在比赛初期，学习部各干事在各班进行宣传，鼓励各班的同学积极报名，统计参赛人数并进行核对，将参赛人的名单、上场序号、参赛时间及地点打印出来并张贴至公告栏。

在此次决赛之前，我部各班干事到各班进行宣传组织各班学生到赛场进行观看，以扩大演讲比赛的影响力。在正式比赛之前为体现“公平”原则，组织各参赛选手进行抽签，已决定各选手上场顺序，比赛过程中，每两名选手进行一次统分及报分，以体现比赛的“公开”性。决赛结束后，各评委对选手的表现进行了点评，指出了个选手在比赛过程中的不足和缺点，提出对同学们的期望，以及对同学们的鼓励，经过评委的评比打分，最终角逐出：一等奖3名，二等奖5名，三等奖10名，以及优秀奖20名。

三、活动过程

在比赛当日，先进行选手的签到，然后由学生会副主席朱磊进行英语演讲比赛开始的致辞并宣布演讲比赛开始，接下来由学习部部长---讲述比赛规则并告知参赛选手需注意的事项，比赛开始后，---负责选手的点名，由--、--、--等人组成的评委团进行打分及现场点评，---、---、--、--等人维持会场秩序，保证比赛有序的进行。

四、比赛结果及活动存在的不足之处

参加本次英语演讲比赛的共有44人，经过激烈的角逐，共有17人获奖，分别是一等奖1名，二等奖3名，三等奖5名，以及优秀奖8名。

通过这次英语演讲比赛，使我们认识到学习英语的重要性和学习英语的关键性。这次英语演讲比赛促进了我系学生学习英语的积极性，丰富了大学生在校的课余生活。同时，我们也从这次英语演讲比赛中发现了我系学生学习英语所存在的一些问题。如：学生的英语底子薄弱;学生学习英语的积极性不够高。有些学生的胆量不够大，上台有些胆怯。由于这些问题的存在，我学习部今后要从以下几个方面着手来提高我系学生学习专业课及学习英语的兴趣，提升我系的学习氛围。

一、针对我系的请况，定期的开展一些针对性的学习讲座和活动。让各位学生在活动中学到知识，陶冶情操，开阔视野。

二、在平时的教学中。学习部将对各班的教学情况进行检查，给学生学习的压力，让他们用心去学习。

三、在平时的学习中，学习部将会定期的向其他系学习，把他们的经验吸取过来，为我们所用。

外籍教师英语演讲课总结

Monday Evening Public Speaking Elective Class

Students were interviewed and selected for admission into this class. A good grasp of spoken English and a desire for excellence in presentation, as well as a commitment to hard work, were criteria for consideration. Ms. Zhang conducted the interviews.

I was invited to participate in this course and asked to lecture on the content in English Public Speaking, the required textbook for the course. It became apparent that the reading assignments were too lengthy, so I began to print handouts of my PowerPoint lesson summaries for the students as supplemental material. My lessons were drawn from the course textbook, previous teaching material and personal experience. My lessons focused mainly on writing and delivering a prepared speech. It was a lot of material to cover and my classes were mostly lecture format.

We chose to use delivery of a prepared speech as the midterm exam and delivery of an impromptu speech as a final exam, combining those scores, along with scores for attendance and class participation, to achieve a final grade.

At midterm time, when the students stood on stage to deliver their prepared speeches, it became apparent to me that I had not allowed them enough in-class practice time. Most of them were nervous about speaking in public and it was reflected in the quality of their performances. In hindsight, I should have lectured less, trusted them to do the reading assignments on their own, and given more classroom time for students to speak on stage. Verbal feedback from the students indicated that they, too, would have liked more opportunities to deliver speeches in class. If I’m given the responsibility and privilege of teaching this class next year, I will change the teaching plan to reflect these insights.

In competition, impromptu speeches are more difficult than prepared speeches. I think class time this past semester was weighted too heavily in favor of writing the prepared speech. My suggestion for teaching this class in the future is to spend less time on the prepared speeches and more time on allowing the students practice at planning and delivering impromptu speeches.

A real strength of this class, in my opinion, was having a native teacher and a foreign teacher working together. We brought different strengths and different perspectives to the class, allowing the students to obtain content and feedback from different points of view. I believe this contributes to a more well-rounded educational experience for our students.

I hope that the public speaking class will continue in future semesters and I look forward to working together with Ms. Zhang in teaching these classes.
